Marketing & The Solar Eclipse
It’s always good to do something helpful, interesting, and share-worthy at a time when it feels like everyone is talking about a topic.
Today? That topic is the Total Solar Eclipse.
Separate from today, this is the same dynamic at holidays, big elections, when a huge news event pops onto the airwaves, or even at the change of the seasons and other timely events. Anytime we can offer something useful and/or noteworthy, that is also timely and talked-about, those extra pushes help to make the conversation more…
RELEVANT! And relevance is always huge!
Speaking of relevance, I blogged about the Solar Eclipse on Martha’s Vineyard at the MVY Marketing blog but kept it relevant to the island! (That’s four times I used the word “relevant”, now five, I think you’ve got it! Moving swiftly along…)

Some Cool Eclipse Resources!
Eclipse Safety from NASA — They caution that looking directly at the sun during this time could cause damage and offer some cool homemade ways to view safely!
Time & Date Solar Eclipse Info — This link is already set to Vineyard Haven, which is my local area. Just change the 5-digit zip code in the URL just after z-us if you want to check out another area.
Interactive Google Eclipse Map — Developed by Xavier Jubier, this really cool map allows you to find out the exact start and end time for your exact location on eclipse day! Click HERE for smack dab in the middle of Martha’s Vineyard!
State-by-State Info!
ALL of these depend on the location in the state and I’m referring to the maximum obscurity!
Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Idaho — All less than 50% at the height, Alaska only 5% (sorry Alaska, you’ll only lose a BIT of sunshine!), Idaho at 47%)
Montana, Nevada, and California in the 50% range at 53% 54% and 57%
Utah, Wyoming, and North Dakota creeping up into the 60%+
South Dakota, Arizona, Florida, Colorado all the way up to the 70%+
Minnesota, South Carolina, Nebraska, North Carolina, Delaware, Georgia, and New Mexico heading all the way up to the 80%
The biggest group is in the 90%+ range: Virginia, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Iowa, Rhode Island, Alabama, Maryland, Connecticut, West Virginia, Kansas, Massachusetts (will be only 88% where we are tho!), Michigan, Louisiana… Tennessee and Michigan seeing that 99% mark (so close!)
Finally! The states that SOMEWHERE will hit 100%: Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and somewhere in the great big state of Texas!
But for the specifics, scroll back up or GET OUTTA THE HOUSE TO SEE!
Happy Eclipse Day!
And that’s it for now! In just a few minutes, we’re headed off to see the sun disappear behind the moon!
